Mobile apps are essential to achieving productivity gains in your workplace as well as supporting the demands of your on-the-go customers. But how do you get there, especially when your back end is a legacy IBM i or z environment? There’s loads of hype that various technologies will let you expose your legacy data to your mobile apps and run them anywhere, but that may only work for very simple apps. To enable features like camera access and local storage, and to support the wide variety of device footprints, HTML5/Hybrid can be the only cost-effective option. Go hybrid, combining the value of HTML5 technologies with native, for example, by using proven technologies such as Sencha Touch with Adobe PhoneGap. The result? Apps that come alive to the user with components scrolling smoothly and naturally, ready access to the device, and securely accessing your back end data.

CM First offers a one-hour primer on how to develop and package HTML5 hybrid, mobile apps for the various app marketplaces. If you’re just starting out on mobile, this presentation will help you understand the technology and offer practical advice on how to get started. If you are farther along on the journey but struggling to get the results you desire, you will learn how mobile-enablement can be easier and better with the HTML5 hybrid approach.
